Soon & Soon Souvenir Shop is a shop located in SF Chinatown. It is a small shop stand, that hopes to pay homage to the Chinese American community and bring back the vibrancy and energy of what once was before the pandemic. The shop sells coffee, pastries, wine, beer, bike gear and fun souvenirs designed by myself in collaboration with my bosses, who own Mister Jiu's and Moongate Lounge. The goal of the space is to also collaborate with the local community and artists! The smiley face, the colors chosen (yellow and orange) symbolize creativity, optimism, is experimental and fun; at the same time reflecting the owners' dedication to his Chinese heritage and their ongoing efforts to keep Chinatown alive. The space, yet small, is still loud because it expresses Chinatown's youthful spirit yet long history. This pocket called Chinatown is important to the culture of San Francisco. I am very honored to be apart of this project for a city I love so much as well as cultivate a meaningful, personal relationship with my bosses and have them allow me to create beautiful collaborated visions come to life.

This project is special to me because I identify as apart of the AAPI community as a 3rd generation half Filipino-American, who grew up feeling a closeness to my Asian heritage being raised by my mother and my grandmother, who is an immigrant from the Philippines. I have seen the devastating impact of the pandemic has had on our Asian communities with the higher rates of violence and racism upon our communities and especially elders due the impact of the covid-19 pandemic. With my design work and strong empathy, I hope to continue contributing positivity and light with my creativity and continue to be involved in projects that intend to uplift the voices of marginalized communities that I feel so close to home with.
